“It helps (both football and track). It's no good unless it helps us both and R.J. is a good kid. He's not trying to brag about things. He's just doing it.”
“There will be a lot of teams here and a lot of runners. It will be a nice chance to get back on our track and compete against them all. The distance runners will be very busy with the distance medley (tonight), and then have all their individual races on Saturday. I expect them to have a lot of success in their races.”
“It's tough to do both, but (Sumrall) has done a good job in the classroom, he's been through spring ball before and he's established the fact that he's one of the guys (in football) and he loves track. It's a great cross training thing and it helps us. I like his toughness and his competitiveness.”
“The shuttle hurdle relay at the Drake Relays could be a lot of fun. We've got a couple of other guys who would like to be a part of that. We had three guys in the finals (at the Adidas Classic), but the hurdles in the conference is really, really strong, so (Sumrall) has got to get better if he wants to place at conference and I know that's what he wants to do.”
“We feel like he can score 300 more points than he did in this meet. This is the first time he's had a chance to compete in a decathlon before the Drake Relays. That's one of the reasons we came to this meet because now he can train and get ready for Drake as he continues to move up.”
